July 18, 2010 Homecoming

The 2010 Trinity Methodist Homecoming was held on Sunday, July 18 with 52 people in attendance. People were here from Florida, Missouri, and Nevada, as well as Mississippi. We started out with the Cemetery Association meeting chaired by the Board President, Mickey Thompson (more below), had congregational hymns, solos, and group performances, and then finished by sharing lunch / dinner while we visited.

Some details about the Cemetery Association meeting are below, as well as some pictures that were taken. Click on a picture to get a much bigger version.

Cemetery Association Meeting

  • The minutes from the 2009 Annual Meeting were reviewed and approved.

  • Secretary-Treasurer Bill Tramel presented the annual financial report. He stressed that, primarily due to the low interest rates, there has not been enough interest income to cover the expenses. Our bylaws state that only the interest income can be used to cover expenses. As a result he strongly suggested that people consider giving future donations as directed donations, that is, targeted to a specific purpose (grass cutting, utilities, insurance, etc.); in this way the entire donation can be used for the specified purpose, not just the interest. If a purpose is not specified with a donation, it is put into the general fund where only the earned interest can be used.

  • It was mentioned that the men's bathroom has now been fixed. The water froze this past winter resulting in  breaking the pipes and the toilet.

  • At some point in the future we may have to look at re-doing the electrical wiring for the church. On hot days the air conditioning compressor frequently trips the breaker; for now we need to run a sprinkler on the compressor to keep it from tripping the breaker.

  • There was an extended discussion on replacing the sign on the church; it is now so rusted that it is very difficult to read. Bill Tramel mentioned that about a year or two ago someone had volunteered to replace the sign, but they had not gotten around to it yet. Bill recommended that we wait until the first of the year and if it is not replaced by then, the Association will see about getting it replaced in time for next year's Homecoming; he guesstimated the replacement cost to be $300-500.

  • We then elected the one director whose term expired and the officers for the coming year. The results are:

    • Mickey Thompson, Director, President

    • Richard Gilreath, Director, Vice-President

    • Bill Tramel, Secretary-Treasurer

    • Wayne Walker, Director

    • Lee Middleton, Director

    • Steve Bruntlett, Director
